Course Overview

This qualification equips students with the skills required to perform fitting, machining, assembly and maintenance of mechanical systems and industrial equipment. Students learn to read technical drawings, use precision tools, operate machinery and follow engineering specifications to produce and repair mechanical components.

Training focuses on safety, precision and quality workmanship to prepare students for employment in engineering and industrial workplaces.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal academic prerequisites; however, applicants should:

  • Be at least 16–18 years of age depending on enrolment pathway
  • Possess basic English communication skills
  • Demonstrate numeracy skills for measurements and calculations
  • Be physically capable of workshop-based tasks
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment prior to enrolment

Apprenticeship students must be employed in the engineering or fabrication industry where required.
