Course Overview

This qualification equips students with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to maintain and repair heavy commercial vehicles used across transport, construction and logistics industries.

Students learn how to inspect, diagnose and repair diesel engines, braking systems, transmissions, suspension, steering and electrical components in heavy vehicles using industry tools, diagnostic equipment and workshop procedures.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal academic prerequisites for this qualification; however, applicants should:

  • Be at least 16–18 years of age (depending on enrolment pathway)
  • Possess basic English communication skills
  • Demonstrate basic numeracy skills
  • Be physically capable of performing workshop tasks
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment prior to enrolment

Apprenticeship students must be employed in the automotive industry where required.
